Russian Hill
サンフランシスコには坂や丘が多くあります。

こちらはロンバードストリート。坂が急すぎるので、クネクネと距離を伸ばして角度を軽減させてるわけですね。
This is Lombard Street. The slope is too steep, so they bend the road and extend the distance to reduce the angle.
このロンバードストリートは、"ロシアンヒル"という名前の丘に位置しています。

Filbert Street のめちゃくちゃ急な坂。

ロシアンヒルはその名の通り丘なので、頂上からどっちを向いても景色が良いです。

このロシアンヒルのすぐ南には、ノブヒルという丘があります。この辺はもともとデコボコなんですね。

環太平洋造山帯 The Pacific Ring of Fire
まず一つ思いつくのは、「環太平洋造山帯」です。

太平洋を取り囲むようにある山がちな地形のことで、これに該当するエリアは地形がボッコボコです。

日本もその一部ですね。サンフランシスコも同じく環太平洋造山帯に属しています。

地震や地殻変動も多いので、こうした丘が形成されたと考えられます。
