Japan Town in San Francisco

サンフランシスコには「ジャパンタウン」と呼ばれる一角があります。
There is a place called "Japantown" in San Francisco.

ジャパンタウンでは、日本の文化にちょこっと触れることが出来ます。
You can touch the Japanese culture in Japantown.

たこ焼きです。「たこ焼きとは何なのか」っていう説明はないんですかね。
It's Takoyaki. Isn't there an explanation about what "Takoyaki" is?

建物のマップです。この建物自体は２フロアあり、建物の外にも日本的なお店がいくつかあります。中華街とかを想像すると、ずっと規模が小さい。
The map of a building. This building has 2 floors. There are some Japanese stores and restaurants outside the building. Japantown is much smaller than Chinatown.

完全に日本の居酒屋のメニューですね。これお客さん読めるのかしら？
This is a menu of Japanese sake restaurant. Can customers read this?

海苔がちゃんと外側に巻かれている寿司。サンフランシスコで見たのは初めてかも。
"Nori" is rolled outside the sushi. This is Japanese style. This might be the first time to see this style sushi in San Francisco.

ニジヤマーケットです。漢字でどう書くかは知りません。
NIJIYA MARKET. I don't know how to write "NIJIYA" in Kanji(Chinese character).

ニジヤの中はこんな感じ。日本かと錯覚するくらい、中は日本のスーパーです。完全に日本のものが売ってます。
Inside NIJIYA. This is like Japanese supermarket. They sells Japanese things.

カラオケバーもあります。個室カラオケもあるらしいけど行ったことないです。
Karaoke bar. I've heard that there are private-room Karaokes. I've never been to them.

栄光の架け橋を全力で歌っている私。
It's me singing "Eiko no Kakehashi".

紀伊國屋書店です。あの「紀伊國屋書店」です。
Kinokuniya book store. Most Japanese people know Kinokuniya book store in Japan.

プリクラコーナー。サンフランシスコの人はプリクラ撮るのかしら。
These are "Purikura(Print Club)". I wonder people in San Francisco take Purikura pictures.

今日はこのJapantownでカツ丼を食べてきましたよ。おいしかったです。
Today, I ate "katsudon" in Japantown. It was nice.

ブラジル人の友だちも食べましたが、気に入ったようです。
My Brazilian friend also ate one and he liked it.

でもあんこ入りの串団子は気に入らなかったようです。日本人でもあんこや和菓子嫌いな人はそこそこいるので、まあわかる。
However, he didn't like "kushi dango" with "anko". Because some Japanese people don't like "anko" and Japanese traditional sweets, we can understand him.

あと韓国人の友だちはラーメン食べてました。満足したようです。
My Korean friend ate Japanese Ramen. He looked satisfied.

China Town

サンフランシスコには、アメリカ最大と言われる中華街があります。
In San Francisco there is a Chinatown, which is said to be the largest in the US.

そこへ、行ってきましたよ！
I went there!

もうサンフランシスコに来て2ヶ月経つというのに、まともに中華街を探索したのは今日が初めてです。
Today is the first time I have explored Chinatown even though I have already been in San Francisco for two months.

アジアンな雰囲気と、高層ビル「トランスアメリカ・ピラミッド」のギャップが最高ですね。
The gap between the Asian atmosphere and the skyscraper "Trans America Pyramid" is amazing.

並んでる商品も中国語が書いてある。でもたまに日本語がまざってる。
Chinese language is written in goods. But sometimes Japanese is written there.

量り売りがあるといかにもって感じですね。
Selling by weight. It's very good.

提灯。
Paper lanterns.

そこら中でカードゲームをしていた謎の公園。お金賭けてるのかしら。中国将棋みたいなゲームやってる人もいた。
A mysterious park where card games were played around. I wonder if they're betting money. Some people were playing games like Chinese Shogi.

昼ごはん。焼売と、豆腐と豚肉の炒め物。完全に食べすぎました。
Lunch. Shumai, fried tofu and pork. I ate too much.

量的には、焼売つける必要なかったな…。でも食べたかったんだよなあ。うまかったし。
Quantitatively, I did not need to add Shumai. But I wanted to eat it. It was delicious.

散髪 Haircut

中華街に行った目的は、ご飯と、もう一つ「散髪」がありました。
The purpose to visit China Town was lunch and haircut.

2ヶ月行ってなかったので、そこそこ伸びてきたんですよね。
It was for the first time in 2 month.

果たして、英語で注文をきちんと伝えることができるか！！
Can I order in English????

写真とか持ってくるべきだったんでしょうけど、それだと楽しくないので、ここは口頭でチャレンジ！
I know that I should bring a picture or something, but it's not interesting. Let me order by speaking!!

うん。まあ、なんとかなったね。
Well, it was OK.

予約してた人が来てなくて、僕が先にやってもらい始めた瞬間に予約の人が来て待たせてしまったり
Because the person who had made a reservation did not come, I got first. However, soon after starting, the person came.

「今日はどうしましょうか？」と聞かれて「Make them short!!」しか言えなかったりしましたが
I could order by just saying "Make them short!!!"

まあなんとかなりました。
Well, it was OK.

「写真とかないですか？」って普通に聞かれたので、まあ、アレですね、僕が楽しいとかじゃなくて、相手を困らせないためにも何か持っていくべきでしたね。
I think I should have brought a picture not because of my interest but because the barber would get bothered if I did not have one.

まとめ

中華街の雰囲気はとても楽しかったです。
The atmosphere was very good.

ご飯も美味しかったし。物価はサンフランシスコ価格だったけど。
The food was nice. Prices was like in San Francisco....

いいね。中国か台湾行きたくなってきた。あと中国語喋りたい。
Good. Now I want to go to China or Taiwan. In addition, I want to speak Chinese.

Yosemite National Park - Part 2

Barbecue

一日目の夕食はバーベキューです。
Dinner for the first day was a barbecue.

Yosemite National Parkにはバーベキューのできるピクニックポイントが何箇所かあります。
Yosemite National Park has several picnic points with barbecue.

椅子とテーブルがあり、さらにグリルが設置されているので、そこに炭なり薪をくべて火を焚いてバーベキューをすることが出来ます。
There are a chair and a table and a grill is installed, so you can cook barbecue by burning fire with charcoal firewood on it.

……が。
However...

まああれですね。
Well......

炭だと思って持っていったのが、着火剤だったよね。
It was fire starter that we thought as charcoal and took.

あっという間に全部燃え尽きて、調理できず。
All was burned out in no time, and we could not cook.

仕方がないので、薪と追加の着火剤を買いに行くチームとその場で待機するチームに別れることに。
Since there was no choice, we decided to break up with a team going to buy firewood and additional fire starter and a team waiting on the spot.

僕は、僕の携帯だけ電波が入ってGoogleMapsが使えた関係で、買い物チームに加わりましたが
I joined the shopping team because only my cell phone could catch the signal and Google Maps could be used.

待機チームは大変だったと思います。なんせ、マジで何も見えないですからね…。
I think the standby team was serious. Seriously they could not see anything ....

その後結局、無事火を起こすことが出来て、何とかなりました。
After that, we were able to get fire and it managed somehow.

ヨセミテに行くなら携帯電話はAT&Tがオススメです。
I recommend you AT&T if you go to Yosemite.

Half Dome Village

宿泊先はこの Half Dome Village のテントキャビンです。
The accommodation was the tent cabin in Half Dome Village.

割といい感じ。
It was nice and quiet.

暖房付きの部屋にしたけど、これもし暖房なしの部屋だったら割りと地獄だろうな…。
We chose a room with heating. If it was a room without heating it would have been hell.

面白いのが、このゴミ箱。
This trash box is interesting.

熊が中を漁れないようになってるんですね。
It is supposed that bears will not catch inside.

このHalf Dome Villageでは、熊対策が徹底して行われていました。
In Half Dome Village, bear countermeasures were carried out thoroughly.

「人間のいる場所には餌がある」と絶対に覚えさせないように、ゴミ箱も熊が触れないようになってるわけです。
The bear can not touch inside the garbage box so that the bear will not absolutely remember "There is food in the place where there are humans."

他にも、車に食べ物を置いたままにしてはいけない、テント内に食料を持ち込んではいけないなど、ルールが徹底されていました。
Besides that, rules were thoroughly done, such as not keeping food on the car, not bringing food inside the tent.

Glacier Point

Glacier Point はヨセミテの谷を囲む崖の上に位置しています。
Glacier Point is located on a cliff surrounding the valley of Yosemite.

夜にここへ行けば、開けた空に満点の星空を見ることが出来ます。行きてえええ
If you go there in the night, you can see the full stars. I want to goooo

However...

閉鎖中でした。
It was closed.

Mariposa Grove といい、何で閉鎖中なんだよ！！
Why it's closed again like Mariposa Grove!!!!!

Happy Isle and Vernal Fall

2日間の行程の中で一番大変だったのがこれ。
This was the hardest part of the two-day journey.

Happy Isleを抜けた後、Vernal Fallへ向かって延々と登り坂。ゼエゼエ言ってましたよ。
After leaving Happy Isle, climb uphill gradually toward Vernal Fall. I was exhausted.

I will climb that height. I can not believe it.

下りもそこそこ大変でした。

Mirror Lake

最後に向かったのは、Mirror Lakeという湖。湖ってほど広くなかったですけど。
Finally I went to the lake called Mirror Lake. Although it was not as wide as the lake.

Farewell

と、言うことで、ドタバタいろいろあったけれども、とにかくばかでかい渓谷を漫喫できた２日間でしたとさ。
Although there were various things, it was two days that I enjoyed the big valley.

Yosemite National Park - Part 1

ヨセミテ国立公園に行ってきましたよ！！！
I visited Yosemite National Park!!!

3年くらい前のマックOSのバージョンの名前が「Yosemite」でしたね。それです。
The name of a version of Mac OSX was "Yosemite". That's it.

でっかい岩山がドーンとあるキレイな背景画像が印象的でした。
The background image with a huge rock was impressive.

Windowsユーザーの方は知りません。
I don't care about Windows users.

そんなヨセミテ国立公園に一泊二日で行ってきたのでその辺の報告をします。
I went on a trip for two days to Yosemite National Park.

ブラジル、ブラジル、韓国、日本の4人。どうやったら実現するんだって感じの組み合わせですね。
4 people from Brazil, Brazil, Korea and Japan. I wonder how this combination realized.

行き方 How to go there

車で行きました。
We went by car.

メンバーの一人が車を持っていたので、それを使いました。
One of us had a car and we used it.

サンフランシスコから車で3時間ほど飛ばすと、ヨセミテ国立公園の入り口に着きます。
You can get from San Francisco to the entrance of Yosemite National Park in about 3 hours.

道中の景色。日本では見れなそう。北海道ならありそう。
Sceneries on the way. It doesn't seem to be seen in Japan. There may be it in Hokkaido.

この景色は日本でも見れそうですね。
This kind of scenery can be seen in Japan.

行程 Journey

Groveland

ここグローブランドは、ヨセミテ国立公園に入る前の最後の拠点です。
Globeland is the last base before entering Yosemite National Park.

ここのスーパーマーケットで食料などを補給し、公園内に入ると良いです。
You can buy something you need such as foods.

ヨセミテ国立公園はめちゃくちゃ広いので、入り口についたからと行って目的地に到着したわけではありません。
Because Yosemite National Park is huge, arriving at the entrance doesn't mean arriving at the destination.

入り口からさらに車で一時間ほど運転して、最初の目的地に向かいます。
We had to drive for a hour more to the first destination.

Mariposa Grove

まず向かったのはマリポーザグローブ。
We went to Mariposa Grove.

ここでは推定樹齢1900-2400年の超巨大なジャイアントセコイアを見ることが出来ます。
You can see Giant Sequoias, whose age are about 1900 - 2400 years old.

一番有名な木はグリズリージャイアントという名前らしいです。
The most famous tree's name is Grizzly_Giant.

それは是非見たい！！！！！
I want to see it!!!!

マリポーザグローブに向かう途中で、ゲートのような場所があって、係員がいました。
There was a gate on the way to Mariposa Grove and there was an employee.

「君たちどこへ行くの？」
"Where are you going?"

「マリポーザグローブに行きたいんですが。」
"We want to go to Mariposa."

「マリポーザグローブは閉鎖中だよ。」
"Mariposa is closed."

…なんだって！？！？
....What!?!?!?!?

いや嘘だろ〜〜〜〜〜
You must be kidding〜〜〜〜

Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias - Yosemite National Park (U.S. National Park Service)

本当でした。
That was true.

仕方ないので、また1時間運転して次の目的地に向かいます。
We had to go to the next destination by driving for an hour.

Bridalveil Fall

El Capitanがよく見えます。
It's El Capitan.

El CapitanもMac OSX の名前でしたね。
El Capitan was also the name of Mac OSX.

こちらはBridalveil Fall。ブライダルベールに見える…？？
This is Bridalveil Fall. It looks like bridal veil......??

そしてこの滝を含む川の名前はブライダルベール川らしいです。アホみたいな名前ですね。
Well, the name of the river contains this fall is Bridalveil River. Interesting.

Tunnel View

続いて向かったのが、トンネルビューと呼ばれる場所。
The next destination was a place called "Tunnel View".

トンネルの近くにあるからトンネルビューです。
Because there is a tunnel near there, it's Tunnel View.

ここからは、エルキャピタンとハーフドームとブライダルベール滝がよく見えて最高です。
You can see El Capitan, Half Dome and Bridalveil Fall. It's amazing.

ヨセミテ国立公園の中で拠点となるのが、このヨセミテビレッジです。
This Yosemite Village is the base in Yosemite National Park.

ビジターセンターやスーパーマーケットがあり、観光以外の用は大体ここで済ませることが出来ます。
There is a visitor center and a supermarket, and for something other than sightseeing it can be done here generally.

解答は覚えてるのに問題を思い出せない！！！！

浪人時代に先生に出された問題に、次のようなものがありました。

ただし、僕があまり覚えていないので、覚えている部分だけを書きます。

よく覚えていない部分は、「？？」で埋めておくことにします。

AとBの2人で、次のようなゲームを行う。
？？個の石を、次のルールに従ってAから順に交互に取り合う。
・直前の相手の番に相手が取った石の数以下の石しか取ることが出来ない。
・？？？？？(他にルールがあったかどうか覚えていない)
？？？？した方を勝ちとする。

このゲームはAかBどちらの必勝か。また、必勝法を説明せよ。

いや、かなり重要な所抜けとるやないか！！！！と思うと思うんですけど

解答をある程度覚えてるんですよ。

その解答はこうです。

n,mは自然数。さらに、nは奇数。
相手が n*2^m 個の石を取ったら、
自分は 2^m個の石を取る。
これを繰り返せば必ず勝てる。

だったんです。

直前の相手の石の個数と、次の自分の石の個数の関係は、次のような感じ。
相手→自分　として

4→4
5→1
20→4
96→32

ここから、元の問題を復元できます…？

BART and Caltrain

サンフランシスコにある主な公共交通機関は主に次の三種類です。
Public transportation in San Francisco are mainly following three.

Muni
BART
Caltrain

このうちMuniについては以前書きました。
I've already written about Muni.(Only Japanese)

サンフランシスコ市内を移動するなら、基本的にこのMuniで事足ります。
Muni is enough to move around only in San Francisco.

でも、もう少し遠くへ行く必要があるときには、Muniではたどり着けません。
However, you can't reach farther places by Muni.

そこで登場するのが、BARTとCaltrainです。
Then, you can use BART and Caltrain.

BART

MuniやCaltrainとくらべて、一番日本の電車のイメージに近いのがこのBARTです。
BART is the closer thing to the image of Japanese train than Muni and Caltrain.

SFO空港と繋がっているので、日本から旅行に来た場合も利用する機会はありそうです。
As it is connected to the SFO airport, there are likely to be opportunities to use when traveling from Japan.

Muniでは空港まで行けません。
Muni is not connected to the airport.

乗り方 How to get on

Clipper Card さえ持っていれば、日本の交通ICカードとまったく同じ乗り方で乗れます。
You can get on the BART by the same way as Japanese IC card.

乗る時と降りる時に改札にタッチすればOK。
Touch the ticket gate when riding and getting off.

現金でチケットを買って乗る方法を知りたい方は、僕はわからないので別途ググってください。

Caltrain

サンフランシスコから南の方へ、BARTよりもさらに遠く、スタンフォードやシリコンバレーまで行きたい場合は、このCaltrainを使います。
If you want to go to the south, such as the Stanford University or Silicon Valley, you should use Caltrain.

Caltrainはとにかくでかい！！！
Caltrain is really big!

全車両2階建てです。
All the cars have two floors.

架線がないので、電車ではないですね。ディーゼル車か何かでしょう。
Because there is no overhead wire, it is not a train. It is a diesel car or something.

日本の電車は一両目にもお客さんが乗り込むことが出来ますが
You can get on the first car of Japanese train

このタイプは一両目は動力車専用で、ここにはお客さんは乗りません。
But about Caltrain, the first car is the powered vehicle and you can't get on.

蒸気機関車なんかをイメージしてもらえればいいと思います。
I think that you should imagine the steam locomotive.

僕はこれに乗って Rakuten USA とスタンフォード大学に行きました。
I visited Rakuten USA and the Stanford University by Caltrain.

乗り方

Caltrainも、BARTと同じく、距離で値段が決まるので、ClipperCardを乗る時と降りる時の2回タッチします。
You should make your Clipper Card touch the gate when getting on and off, because the price depends on the distance like BART.

サンフランシスコの駅はこんな感じ。
San Francisco Station.

それ以外の駅はこんな感じでだだっ広いです。
Other Stations.

この機械に Clipper Card をタッチします。
Touch Clipper Card to this machine.

改札はありません。
There is no gate.
