"Land's End" という大げさな名前の場所に行ってきました。
I went to "Land's End", whose name is exaggerated.
ヨーロッパ中心の世界地図だと、アメリカは西側にありますね。
In the world map whose center is Europe, the American continent is in the west.
サンフランシスコというのはアメリカ大陸の西海岸にあるのですが、
San Francisco is in the west side of the American continent,
そのサンフランシスコの西の果てが、Land's End です。
and Land's End is in the west end of San Francisco.
崖になっていて、ズバッとそこで大陸が終わっているのも End 感を増していますね。
It looks "end" because it's a steep cliff.
西側です。水平線があります。
This is the west. You can see the horizon.
この向こうにずーっとまっすぐ…ではなく、緯線にそってちょっとずつ曲がりながら進むと、日本にたどり着きます。
If you went straight in this direction ...... no, went along the latitude line and you could get to Japan.
北側に出るとゴールデンゲートブリッジが見えます。
You can see the Golden Gate Bridge from the north edge.
何故迷路がここにあるのかは知らない。誰かが勝手に作って、観光地になってるのか。
I don't know why the labyrinth is here. Some one made it and it became a tourist site?
よく見ると漫画の表現みたいなことになってる写真。
You can find there is an expression like manga if you look at this picture closely.
さてさて。
By the way
ここに来てからわかったのが、ここハイキングコースがあるんですよ。
I found a hiking trail after coming there. I had not known that.
海沿いの崖の上を行く、なかなか楽しいハイキングコースが。
The trail is very interesting because it is on the coastal cliff.
なんでも、昔ここに鉄道が走ってたらしくて
There was a railroad of old.
その跡地が、今ハイキングコースになってるらしい。
The trail is where the railroad have been.
ちなみにその鉄道は土砂崩れで破損して、そのまま撤去されたそうです。
The railroad had got broken because of a landslip, and then, was removed.
線路の跡とか残ってるといいなあと思ったけど、そういうのはなかったですね。
I hoped there was a ruin of the rail. However, there wasn't.
あと、この海域は海流や霧、海峡の狭さのせいで座礁船が多かったらしくて
In addition, there had been a lot of ships aground on the rocks because of the strong current, deep fog and narrow strait.
特にでかい奴の部品が、今でも引き潮の時に見れるらしいです。
They say that you can see the ruins of the ships in the low tide.
引き潮のタイミング調べてもっかい行くか…。
Should I go again after checking the time of the low tide...?
そして最後にたどり着いたのが Sutro Bathsという場所。
I arrived at Sutro Baths in the end of the trail.
ところで、僕、Land's End ってパッと端っこまで行って見て終わりだと思ってたから
Actuary, I thought that Land's End was not so big and I could see everything in a short time.
夕焼けを狙って遅めの時間に来たんですよね。
I went late to see the sunset.
なので Sutro Baths に着いた時は結構暗かったです。
Then, when I arrived at Sutro Baths, it was dark.
洞窟です。暗くて怖すぎて入れませんでした。
It's a cave. It was too dark and scary to go into.
後日行って撮ってきた写真がこちら。
I took these pictures another day.
昔プールだったらしいですが、火事でなくなったらしいです。
It was a swimming pool of old. It have burned down.
こちらは夜は怖すぎて中に入れなかった洞窟。
This is the cave I had never been able to go into.
狭い洞窟に波が入り込む迫力のある場所があって面白かったです。
This place was exciting because the wave come in.
